Mario Gotze will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer at the end of his contract, once again sparking debate over whether Liverpool should make a move for the World Cup winner.
Ever since Jurgen Klopp first took over as Reds manager in October 2015, the German playmaker has found himself linked with a move to Anfield to reunite with his former mentor.
Having burst onto the scene under Klopp as a teenager at BVB, the 27-year-old’s star has somewhat fallen since scoring the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final due to a mixture of a move to Bayern Munich not working out and being diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder which forced a prolonged absence from the game.
And with a return to Dortmund in 2016 failing to help him live up to his early promise, could a reunion with Klopp be just what Gotze needs to kick-start his flailing career with the duo still boasting a well-publicised strong relationship?
Primarily utilised upfront or as a number 10 in recent seasons, at 27 his best years should be still ahead of him while on a free, he could provide a valuable squad option to Liverpool if they did indeed snap him up.
However, injuries and his faltering form beg the question is he even good enough to play for the current Reds side and would they be willing to match his wage demands if Klopp can’t count on him being available every week, despite how well he knows the player?
Well Liverpool fans are struggling to decide whether Gotze’s worth gambling on after taking to our Reds news and transfers LIVE blog to have their say on whether Klopp should bring the German to Anfield.
At the time of writing, over 3,000 fans have had their say with 56% saying they would take him at Liverpool and 44% thinking the Reds should leave well alone.
Gotze will continue to be linked with a future move to Anfield, even after his future is resolved this summer but what do you think?
Would you take Mario Gotze at Liverpool?
