Caoimhim Kelleher

Good save from Crankshaw first half and fielded other efforts as Wigan pressed. Composed handling throughout but couldn’t withstand the second-half onslaught.

Abdi Sharif

His first competitive start in a year after an ACL injury, the midfielder by trade’s attacking leanings were evident when possible but held defensive position well. Understandably tired late on.

Tom Clayton

Decent first half when Liverpool’s most solid defender. The introduction of experience to the Wigan attack second half offered a different challenge, an unfortunate with misunderstanding for the third.

Remi Savage

One or two slack passes early on but strong in the tackle on occasion, particularly during the second half as the hosts piled forward. Like his team-mates, will learn from this.

Owen Beck

Given a tough time by the pace of Solomon-Otabor on the Wigan right but stuck to his task first half. Extremely exposed in the second half as the home side swarmed in attack.

Leighton Clarkson

Sitting in front of the back four, was a little overworked at times first half but a rare sortie forward saw him convert Millar’s cross for the Liverpool goal. Swamped after the break.

Ben Woodburn

Made one early burst into the penalty area and experience from previous loan spells was clear. Comfortable in possession. A vocal skipper on the evening.

Jake Cain

Began to show his passing range with a few good touches first half, particularly when bursting down the inside left channel. But this was a tough evening overall.

Jack Bearne

Twice almost connected to left-wing crosses in the opening period when sneaking in at the far post. Grew in confidence second half and always a threat with his pace. Subbed.

Luis Longstaff

Good one-two almost created an opening for Woodburn and close with one blocked shot. Tough ask as the central striker but always willing to drop deeper to look for the ball.

Liam Millar

Quiet in the opening quarter but started to cause problems down the Wigan left and got in behind to create the opener. Warmed the palms of Wigan goalkeeper Evans second half.

Elijah Dixon-Bonner (for Bearne 64)

Hard to get into the game with Wigan in total control.

James Balagizi (for Cain 84)

Good experience for the 17-year-old.

Fidel O’Rourke (for Longstaff 84)

Minutes for the forward.
