Firmino sends warning to Joelinton
Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has warned Newcastle frontman Joelinton “not to have fun” at Anfield when the two sides face off on Saturday.
Joelinton joined the Magpies from Hoffenheim this summer, following the same path to the Premier League as Firmino who arrived at Anfield in 2015 from the Bundesliga side .
Brazil international Firmino is one of the best forwards in world football and an incredibly important cog in Jurgen Klopp’s set up while compatriot Joelinton is just finding his feet at St James’ Park - read Connor Dunn’s story here
"Collymore closing in..."
Liverpool versus Newcastle will always bring back memories of what is widely-regarded as the greatest Premier League game of all time, that epic 4-3 back in April 1996.
Stan Collymore has had a chat with the Mirror about his memories of that dramatic night and it’s well worth a read, take a look
Heading to Anfield tomorrow?
There’s a few changes to be aware of, Connor Dunn explains further
Mourinho explains why Liverpool would cope with Klopp departure
Not that we’re expecting that to happen any time soon.. but the former Manchester United manager has explained why he believes Liverpool and Manchester City are so far ahead of every other team in the Premier League and a lot it comes down to stability. Read
Suso 'linked' with Man City
Manchester City could look to bring Suso back to the Premier League as a replacement for David Silva according to the latest reports in Spain.
El Desmarque claim Pep Guardiola is keen on signing the former Liverpool playmaker from AC Milan.
Part of me still wishes he’d stayed at Anfield.
And we're back!

Wolves scout Ugurcan Cakir
Liverpool have competition if they want to sign Ugurcan Cakir with Wolves reportedly entering the race and currently scouting the goalkeeper.
Jurgen Klopp named Premier League Manger of the Month
Four games, four wins and top of the league. It couldn’t be anyone else!
McAteer slams Roy Keane
Speaking to Irish broadcaster Off the Ball, Keane used the opportunity to criticise Walters for ‘crying on the TV about his family situation’ while also ridiculing him about his lack of trophies.
Jon does a lot of talking, it’s amazing. Imagine if Jon won a trophy. He talks a good game.
He goes on the TV, on about how he was harshly treated by me, not kicking a ball for Burnley for two or three years, crying about his family situation.
You know, how about lying low for a while, taking it easy?
Have a look at his medals – it wouldn’t take long.
Walters hit back, saying Keane is ‘not a tough guy’ and that he ‘doesn’t know why anybody listens’ to him.
And now McAteer has got involved in the feud between his compatriots, hitting out at Keane when appearing on TalkSPORT.
We all know Roy, he says what he wants and that’s why he’s box office because he says it how he thinks.
It’s very watchable at times, but unfortunately I do feel he lets himself down with the comments he makes about other players and I was disappointed that Roy come out and said some of the things he did.
Jonny is a brilliant guy and he’s an advocate for mental health. He’s gone on telly and put himself out on a limb because he feels it’s going to help people, and it is.
We need to create more awareness of mental health these days and what people go through, certainly elite sportspeople because it’s a very demanding environment and unfortunately when you come out of it it leaves you with problems sometimes.
Jonny feels the need to come out and help people, which is fantastic, you take your hat off to him for that. So for Roy to bring him down and suggest he needs to stop crying on the telly, it was a poor comment.
Roy does like the medals one, but at the end of the day you can’t take the medals down the pub and have a pint with them. They don’t talk back to you.
I’d rather have a couple of mates than a couple of medals, to be honest.
Pukki named Premier League Player of the Month for August
Roberto Firmino has missed out on the Premier League Player of the Month for August award.
The Brazilian has contributed two goals and two assists for Liverpool this season.
But it wasn’t enough to win the award, with Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki scooping the prize after scoring five goals in four games.
Nike kit deal
Right, you have to have been living under a rock to not know Liverpool are currently in negotiations for a mammoth new kit deal.
The Reds are reportedly looking for the highest deal in Premier League history with current deal with New Balance set to expire at the end of the season.
Nike are reportedly looking to take over form the start of the 2020/21 campaign and the Mirror claim they’re set to scale back on boot deals for players in a bid to focus on kit deals with clubs.
With Nike keen to add Liverpool to their portfolio, the report suggests some individual players could see their boot deals cut back.
Their new approach is banking on the fact their boots, sportswear and training kit remains extremely popular in the market, with a belief players will want to stick with the brand even if the money being offered is less lucrative.
“Collymore closing in!
“Collymore closing in!”
It’s iconic and it always gets a watch before any clash between Liverpool and Newcastle.
So let’s walk down memory lane and take a look back at that famous 4-3 victory for the Reds in 1996.
From Barnes and Rush’s one-twos to Kevin Keegan hanging his head, I can still recite the commentary from this one.
And that roar when it hits the net.
Doubt we’ll get another seven-goal thriller tomorrow though.
Neville takes aim at Carra and Liverpool
Gary Neville’s done a quickfire Q&A with the EFL and, inevitably, both Liverpool and Jamie Carragher get a mention.
Asked Jamie Redknapp or Jamie Carragher, he replied...
I don’t like either really. I spend more time with Carragher, that’s not necessarily a good thing.
This one’s got me, hasn’t it? I think Jamie Redknapp’s a lot nicer, I’ll go with him.
And then he was asked Man City or Liverpool?
Get rid of them. I not answering that one. None of them, I’m sick of them!

Liverpool fans urged to show support for fan culture at Anfield
Liverpool fans are being asked to show their support for independent retailers at Anfield on Saturday as the row over the club’s bid to trademark the city name rumbles on.
Local merchandising groups are asking Reds fans to wear a ‘unique or independent brand’ to watch the team take on Newcastle in the early Saturday kick-off.
Liam Thorp has the story...
Bruce on Liverpool's record
Records are there to be broken. Up front they’re as good as I’ve seen, so we’ll have to defend well. It’s always been a big fixture, and you want to go there and take them on. It’s what we’re in it for.
Bruce hoping for a shock
They have been together for a couple of years. The core are really really honest + genuine group of players. When you’ve got that, you’re capable of doing anything. Let’s go + have a crack + enjoy the occasion + see if we can pull off a shock.
Bruce on Liverpool's home form
They have not lost there for two and a half years, they are the European champions, we will have to catch them on an off day. We have good team spirit here.
Newcastle injury updates
Steve Bruce is talking to the press right now and looks like Newcastle United have a few injury problems of their own to contend with.
Allan Saint-Maximin, Sean Longstaff, Matt Richie and Andy Carroll all ruled out.
They’ll also be without Dwight Gayle, Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin.
On this day...
Not the most memorable moment in Liverpool’s history...
But at least they won the most recent meeting between two English sides in the competition...
Sadly I’m not bringing you today’s Liverpool LIVE blog from ECHO HQ. Instead, I’m at home with ice on my ankle after getting injured at football last night.
Sad times, but the show must go on.
But you’re not bothered by my injury updates - you want to know when Naby Keita and Alisson are going to be back.
Well hopefully Jurgen Klopp will have an update for us later this afternoon.
We already know Nathaniel Clyne and Paul Glatzel are out for the forseeable, but the former duo will be hoping to return sooner rather than later.
Premier Injuries reckon Keita could return tomorrow, but I’m not so sure. Anyway, all will be revealed...
Liverpool 'not in race for Havertz'
Liverpool are reportedly not interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz.
The Reds have been linked with the Germany international in recent months.
But according to Bild, Jurgen Klopp’s side are not in the hunt for the attacker, who will instead choose between Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid as his next club.
Steve Bruce press conference
Steve Bruce has his own press conference from 9.30am today so keep it with me for all the latest updates from that too.
Season so far...
Some great goals in here...
Sadio Mane v Southampton is still the best in my eyes.
Jurgen Klopp press conference
It’s Friday, Premier League football is back tomorrow and that can only mean one thing - it’s press conference day!
Paul Gorst and Ian Doyle will be at Melwood this afternoon to bring you LIVE updates of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match media briefing from 1:30pm.
In the meantime, here’s what to expect from the manager’s latest media briefing.
Who? Jurgen Klopp, it’s a bit of a wasted journey if not.
What? A good old natter ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle United tomorrow lunchtime.
Where? Melwood! Just dawned on me this is the last season of saying that...
What will be on the agenda? Injury updates on Alisson and Naby Keita, the Reds’ unbeaten start to the season, possible rotation, that Sadio Mane/Mohamed Salah falling out, whether Xherdan Shaqiri will get some action and much, much more.
Goal of the Day!
Don’t know about the rest of you but I am super excited about the return of Premier League football tomorrow.
Much more exciting than internationals, even mad eight-goal thrillers against Kosovo.
So to get you in the mood, today’s Goal of the Day is last season’s Goal of the Season - Andros Townsend’s screamer v Man City!
