Virgil van Dijk is a major fitness worry for the Club World Cup final.

Liverpool defender Van Dijk did some fitness work on Thursday but was still not able to complete a proper training session.

It means the Dutch centre half has not trained fully once since Liverpool arrived in Doha and van Dijk therefore risks missing one of the biggest showpiece games of his career.

Van Dijk has been struggling with illness and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp even admitted that he left the training pitch as soon as the TV cameras left their open session on Tuesday ahead of the final with Monterrey.

Liverpool face Flamengo in the final on Saturday and Klopp is unlikely to take a gamble on van Dijk after Jordan Henderson was forced to fill in for him at centre half on Wednesday night.

And Henderson says he would be happy to do so again if Jurgen Klopp asks him to.

“It was different! I had fantastic players around me and they helped me out," said the Liverpool skipper.

"When you have that quality around you, it makes it a little bit easier. It was different to anything that I have been used to.

“I’ve played at full-back but I’ve never played there before. I just tried to do my best for the team and thankfully we got the win in the end.

“I don’t know what will happen with Virgil on Saturday. Fingers crossed he will be OK. Of course, if the manager needed me to go there again, I would do it. It is anything to help the team.

“We are here – we wanted to come here, we wanted to get to the final and we want to win. We have done the first bit by getting to the final and now we want to win it. That’s the mentality of this team.

“We found a way to win again in the end. We are there, where we wanted to be, and hopefully we will find a way to win again on Saturday, too.”
