Katy Perry has opened up about the reality of life as a new mother.
The “Dark Horse” singer made an appearance at David Lynch Foundation's “Meditate America” virtual event on Friday, during which she spoke to fellow celebrity guests Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness about the birth of her daughter, Daisy Dove.
Perry said that her daughter was a “gift” but admitted that she found the lack of sleep that comes with having a newborn to be a major “challenge”.
“I'm a new mother. My daughter — she's such a gift — but there is sometimes a challenge concerning sleep no matter how much support you have,” Perry said.
“But where am I going to get those six hours that I used to get? Where did it go?”
Perry went on to credit transcendental meditation (TM) for helping her find time to take a break during the day.
“There's been so many different ways TM has blessed me, but in this particular moment, as a new mother, I take 20 minutes,” she said.
“And not only do I find the deepest rest that I need, that my body is desperate for — that my brain is desperate for, as a reset, but it feels like, literally, I've stolen two plus hours, maybe three hours from the clock”
The “Smile” singer and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, had their first child together in August.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star also has a nine-year-old son, Flynn Christopher Bloom, who he shares with his ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr.
In October, Bloom spoke about his daughter during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing that Daisy resembles a mixture of himself and Perry.
“It was funny because when she first came out I was ‘Oh it's me it's a mini-me!' Then, fortunately, she got those Katy blues which was perfect,” Bloom recalled of his daughter's eyes.
“I would wake up in the morning and [chant], which is what I do anyway every morning,” he said.
“So now, I walk into the room and she hears my voice and she sort of soothes a bit. She likes it, she responds very nicely.”
“It’s like I’m a baby whisperer,” he added. “I’m definitely winning the daddy points.”
