Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers favourites to be appointed next Tottenham manager with Jose Mourinho sacked

TOTTENHAM are searching for a new permanent appointment after sacking manager Jose Mourinho.

And RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is the leading contender for the role, according to bookmakers Betfair.

Mourinho, 58, signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season after replacing Mauricio Pochettino back in November 2019.

But pressure has taken its toll on the Portuguese tactician, despite

Spurs are SIX points adrift from the Champions League qualification places and THREE outside the Europa League spots with seven fixtures remaining.

They were dumped out of Europe by Dinamo Zagreb and have just one victory in their last five - losing to Arsenal and Manchester United during that run.

But defeat at Wembley and failure to qualify for Europe could see chairman Daniel Levy pull the trigger.

The Express claim Levy and Co. have 'identified' Espirito Santo as a 'potential successor' to Jose and that's seen him rocket to the top of the betting market at 3/1.

However, with Nuno having signed a contract extension until June 2023 - it's thought Wolves would be owed around £8million in compensation in addition to Mourinho's severance package.

Highly-rated RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is Nuno's closest challenger, priced at 4/1 with bookmakers Betfair.

Free agent Rafa Benitez available at 8/1 with Ajax's Erik ten Hag a double-figure 10/1.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl and Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers are priced at 14/1 and 16/1 respectively with ex-Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri, Diego Simeone and Eddie Howe all priced at 20s.

Frank Lampard is a 25/1 chance with Marcelo Bielsa and Gareth Southgate the outsiders of the field at 33/1.
