Joe Biden misery: Anti-Greta Thunberg debunks key green campaign pledge by Democrat

JOE BIDEN's key pledge on resolving the "number one issue facing humanity" has been rubbished by Naomi Seibt, the activist known as the anti-Greta Thunberg of climate change, during an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

Ahead of the forthcoming US presidential election next week, Ms Seibt attacked the Democrat nominee over his supposed plan to tackle climate change. In recent weeks, Mr Biden has put green initiatives at the heart of his campaign, claiming climate change is the "number one issue for me" as he bids to win votes before the November 3 poll. He added: "Climate change is the existential threat to humanity. Unchecked, it is going to actually bake this planet.

"This is not hyperbole. It’s real. And we have a moral obligation.”

Mr Biden promised to implement the Green New Deal on his first day in office, something critics such as rival Donald Trump have claimed will cost trillions of dollars.

He, along with vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris, have both argued that action must be taken over the climate with the new deal, something that Ms Seibt believes will have zero impact on the environment moving forward.

The Green New Deal calls on the federal government to ensure the US decreases the amount of fossil fuels used, while axing greenhouse gas emissions across the economy.

The pact, it is reported, will also hope to create high-paying jobs within the clean energy industry.

Yet, Ms Seibt is adamant that regardless of whether the pledge works or not, either way it will be shown off as a success to the public.

She told Express.co.uk: "The Green New Deal could be the US' economic downfall, which is funny because Mr Biden has been posting about how US President Donald Trump has ruined the economy with his reaction to the coronavirus.

"There is Mr Biden who promotes absolute socialism in terms of the climate change debate, even though he has never approached experts on the other side of the debate.

"He should look at both sides because if you shut everyone else down, you don't even allow for a debate, and then you can't implement such strong economic policies."

She added: "They will spread the message that positive results are coming from the changes, and progress is being made and they'll say now we just have to keep going.

"They will increase taxes massively, waste it on alternative energy sources and that will be dangerous especially in terms of electricity."

Presently, Mr Biden is planning to spend $2trillion (£1.5tn) on his climate scheme, which includes a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035.

This will, Mr Biden claims, see the US achieve a 100 percent clean energy economy and reach zero emissions by 2050.

Mr Biden takes on Mr Trump in the election later this year, hoping to become the first Democrat in the White House since Barack Obama.

A row erupted earlier this month after Mr Biden was put to task over the Green New Deal by Mr Trump during a controversial televised debate.

During the row, Mr Trump branded the deal "radical" before saying it would cost $100trillion (£76.4trillion).

However, Mr Biden backtracked by claiming the deal was "not his plan" before moments later admitting the pact would "pay for itself as we move forward".

Further confusion was generated after Mr Biden then said he "doesn't support the Green New Deal", despite including it within its pledges on his own website, where he described it as "crucial framework for meeting the climate challenges we face".
