Jadon Sancho was in action on Wednesday afternoon as Borussia Dortmund stepped up their pre-season preparations in a friendly match.

A chance to show his quality on the pitch would have been a welcome break from continued media speculation surrounding the 20-year-old’s future in Germany.

He travelled with his Dortmund teammates to a Swiss pre-season training camp amidst the backdrop of widespread speculation of a move to Old Trafford. Sancho himself has remained unmoved by worldwide rumours that look to be carrying on into the last two months of the transfer window before it shuts on October 5.

For Manchester United, they appear quiet on their efforts to sign the club’s number one transfer target this summer after Dortmund sporting director claimed no direct contact has been made by the Premier League club.

Here is the latest news on Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

Ferdinand outlines key reason that United need Sancho

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has outlined one key reason why the club need to sign Sancho this summer.

The 20-year-old has been frequently linked to Old Trafford despite the rise of Mason Greenwood this season but Ferdinand thinks his arrival would be a positive for the current squad.

He told BBC Sport: “If he does come he'll be an added value in terms of quality no doubt.

"Manchester United need top players who are going to have an effect on their first XI and I think Jadon Sancho falls into that category.

"If you look at successful Manchester United sides over the years, successful periods, there were players fighting for every position and if you substitute one out and you brought one in there was no change in the quality or the output."

Haaland and Can react to Sancho transfer saga

Dortmund have remained clear in their stance on the potential departure of Sancho this summer.

Zorc himself has appeared unmoved by continuing speculation across Europe and his players appear to be following a similar suit.

Both Erling Haaland and former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can recently spoke about their delight of him reportedly staying for the upcoming season.

Haaland noted: “Jadon is a fantastic player, so I’m very happy that he is staying. I’m sure he’ll give me a couple of goals – but I’ll give him some too.”

While Can also said: “I’m personally very happy that Jadon is staying. For me he is already a world class player. He’s very, very important to the team. I hope he will continue to score many goals and help us as a team to win as many games as possible.”

Why United are wrong about Sancho valuation

United will have to reassess the club’s finances if they are to pursue the signing of Sancho this summer.

Dortmund have been firm in their valuation of the 20-year-old despite United reportedly trying to drive a hard bargain.

As Liam Corless writes, the club should take notice of current deals happening around Europe and ask whether they should be looking to up their efforts to sign Sancho this summer.

With Victor Osimehn moving to Napoli for an estimated €81million, Sancho could be worth the £108million quoted by the Bundesliga side.
