A driver has been slammed after blocking off a car park to stop 'lockdown breakers' using the beach.
The protester sparked uproar after parking their car across the entrance with warning messages in their windows.
The Vauxhall Corsa was plastered in notes saying "due to Covid lockdown," and "please exercise near your home as per UK law - thank you".
The vehicle was left overnight on Leasowe Road in Wirral, completely blocking vehicle access to the overspill car park at Moreton Shore.
But the driver has now been branded an 'idiot' for their bold actions which has also left local people unable to access the car park, reports The Liverpool Echo.
Social media users hit out in local Facebook groups with one woman posting: "To the idiot who put the car across the barrier in Moreton last night / this morning... I hope you slept well and felt a sense of accomplishment.
"Your note says 'go exercise in your local area'. Well as the crow flies I am 0.3m from that car park.
"But to walk it round the estate would add 20 minutes to my journey in the morning.
"Might seem lazy, but as a front line key worker those 20 minutes in my morning are precious.
"So all you've done this morning is inconvenience lots of local people, probably trying to have a morning walk, which we are allowed to do.
"As a front line key worker myself my morning walk with my dog is the only bit of peace and joy I have had for an entire year during lockdown.
"Your little blockade and note was selfish to those people. It also would have blocked emergency vehicles. You're an idiot."
A woman replied to the post: "I too am only down the road and very local but with a four-year-old. The walk can take 30 mins and then he’s tired by the time we even get to the beach so we also drive and park here so that we can actually have a walk on the beach. What an idiot!"
Another woman complained the car owner's actions would prevent wheelchair users from reaching the shore: "What an inconsiderate idiot! We live in Moreton and use this access road to park as it is easier to access the beach for people (like my husband) who has disabilities and those others who have wheelchairs/pushchairs etc."
One person said: "What about elderly people who can't walk far but still need to let the dogs out for a run? Hopefully somebody pushes it out of the way or it gets recovered".
While another woman posted: "Imagine how you’d feel if you felt you couldn’t exercise outside your own home because it was so crowded with people - can’t win with some! Stupid way to protest considering it’s an emergency access route and how frequently the coastguard and rescue are down there pulling idiots out of mud all the time!"
Merseyside Police said the car was removed just after 9am on Thursday.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We were contacted at 8.20am following reports a Vauxhall Corsa was parked on Leasowe Road in Wirral and was blocking emergency access to the beach.
"The car was removed at just after 9am and the owner was traced to his home address, spoken to and given advice."
