VISITORS to Darlington were treated to a chilly reception at the weekend - in the best possible way.

The town was dotted with impressive ice sculptures as part of a Christmas initiative encouraging shoppers to follow a trail and find them all.

They were spread around the town centre, from Northgate down to the Market Square, taking in High Row, Joseph Pease Place and Grange Road among other locations.

Sculptures included a giant snowman, a festive wreath and Christmas tree expertly carved out of ice.

Visitors were also given the chance to watch an ice sculpture carving as it happened and other enterntainment in the town on Saturday included live music, competitions and street performances.
