Ian Wright believes that Cristiano Ronaldo will make a significant impact when Manchester United welcome old rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday.
Ronaldo has scored six goals in eight appearances this season, and netted a late winner in United’s midweek Champions League win over Atalanta.
However, despite the Portugal forward's impressive form, United are without a win in their last three Premier League games.
Pressure is building for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to halt their winless run, and Wright is expecting Ronaldo to step up and deliver against the Reds.
The former Arsenal striker claims that despite Virgil van Dijk lining up in Liverpool’s defence, he simply cannot believe the evergreen Ronaldo won’t make a statement in the blockbuster clash at Old Trafford.

Wright said on Premier League TV : “I just think we are dealing with arguably one of the greatest clutch players that I have ever seen.
“We know he is 36, but I believe he will know about Virgil van Dijk and how they will defend against him.
“But the fact is that’s what he can do, he will sniff it out.
“Virgil van Dijk can’t do much about if the goalkeeper makes a mistake and if he gets in positions like that he will score.
“He will score because he knows how to pull out that goal in a big game.
“He will have some form of say because you can’t see Cristiano Ronaldo going into a game and think nothing is going to happen.
“Something will happen.”
The battle between Ronaldo and Van Dijk promises to be an intriguing subplot in a fascinating showdown between the two old rivals, and could prove pivotal to which side claims the points on Sunday.
