Ant and Dec have offered an update after I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here was cancelled over the weekend, and it's not looking good for the show's immediate future.

It is the first time in the show's 18-year history that the live show has had to be taken off air.

It comes after the production base at Gwrych Castle in North Wales suffered significant damage during Storm Arwen on Friday night, Manchester Evening News reports.

The stars of the ITV reality show have also been removed from the castle while work is carried out to get the production base back up and running after suffering technical issues due to the extreme weather seen in many parts of the country this weekend.

But with the scale of the damage to technical equipment still unknown, The Sun is reporting that the show's return could still be days away.

In place of the usual live episodes, a compilation episode of past series aired on both Saturday and Sunday night.

The show's hosts Ant and Dec shared the disappointment at not being able to bring I'm A Celeb fans brand new episodes.

And on Sunday night they offered a new update.

Alongside a video from their kitchen, the presenting duo posted: "More news from the kitchen! The @imacelebrity team are working round the clock to get us back on your tellies ASAP!

"Meanwhile we hope you’re enjoying a better meal than a crisp sandwich."

In the video, Ant and Dec joked: "We are celebrities... get us back in there," before explaining more about the ongoing situation.

Dec said the site was "quite badly damaged" during the storm and that the team are "in there working round the clock to try get it back up and running."

While they said they are aiming to be back on air "as quickly as humanly possible," they did admit they "don't know when."

ITV has also issued a fresh update.

A spokesperson for ITV said: "This is an on-going live situation and we're taking each day as it comes and working round the clock.

"We're currently not in a position to confirm when we'll be back on air but we'll absolutely keep you posted when we get more updates."
