I am being hounded by a debt collector and it’s stressful – how do I stop it?

MONEY MISERY

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM being hounded by a debt collector and it’s causing me huge stress.

I am 31 and a single mum with two children.

I am getting email after email and at least two voicemails a day and many texts.

I have asked the company to stop sending me this correspondence and said I will repay the money when I can, but I was off work with depression and then the company folded so I lost my job.

How do I stop them from hounding me?

DEIDRE SAYS: Don’t try to ignore their messages and texts or fob them off with vague promises. They are far more likely to leave you in peace if you get agreements in place to pay manageable amounts, even if they’re tiny.
