A HUSBAND who raped his wife in front of their children while on holiday has been jailed in a landmark case.
The 40-year-old is thought to be the first in the British Isles convicted of a sex attack committed in another country.
He was staying in a log cabin with his wife as the children slept in the same room.
The attack took place as the couple’s relationship broke down after he had an affair.
The court heard that as he raped her, he said: “This is my last chance to be close to you.”
In the two months leading up to the rape, the victim sent several emails to the defendant and in one said: "I'm not prepared to feel used and abused."
She added that she was not going to be at his beck and call for sex.

The man — who cannot be named for legal reasons — was jailed for 4½ years by Jersey’s Royal Court in what has been hailed as a landmark case.
UK mainland police are not able to prosecute for overseas offences.
But Jersey has its own legal system and changes to its sexual offences law in 2018 made the prosecution possible.
