Huntingdon tips: Racecard, analysis and preview for the feature Betway Handicap Hurdle on Thursday

RACE OF THE DAY

HUNTINGDON stages an cracking midweek card over the jumps on Thursday.

The Sidney Banks Novices' Hurdle is the big one of the day, but the best betting heat is the Betway Handicap Hurdle (3.05).

It will be fascinating to see which way Messire Des Obeaux goes in the betting on his return from a huge lay-off.

Alan King's eight-year-old has been off the track for 1034 days, but he was a Grade 1 winner in the 2016-17 season and went on to finish placed at Cheltenham and Aintree.

He is well-treated on his return and would pose a huge threat if able to recapture anything like his best form - but that is a huge 'if'.

The market leader Tea Clipper demands serious consideration, and he showed a good attitude when preserving his unbeaten record at this track in December.

This longer trip should suit him and a 3lb rise is not insurmountable.

Didtheyleaveuoutto lines up off a very attractive mark, but he has become very disappointing.

He has undergone a wind op but a big leap of faith is needed to side with him now stepped back up in trip.

The one who appeals most is Nicky Henderson's COLONIAL DREAMS.

He won a red-hot handicap hurdle over this trip at Sandown in the spring, clearly relishing a sound surface.

The ground was far too soft for him on his only run this season, when well-held at Newbury over the Festive period.

He will be much happier with conditions here, with the going drying out nicely over the past few days.

There's little doubt in my mind he is better than his mark of 137 and he remains open to progress after just 11 starts over obstacles.
