Hull KR have confirmed that Joe Keyes will leave the club at the end of the season after signing for Halifax Panthers.

The half-back joined the Robins from Bradford Bulls in late 2019 but he has struggled to make his mark at Craven Park.

Injuries restricted Keyes to five appearances in his debut season and he carried that bad luck into this year.

The 26-year-old was playing catch-up from the start after falling behind Mikey Lewis, Rowan Milnes and even Brad Takairangi in the pecking order.

After loan spells at York City Knights and Bradford, he finally got an opportunity at Magic Weekend at the start of this month and scored a try against Leigh Centurions in what was in all likelihood his farewell appearance.

Keyes had a year left on his contract with Rovers but the two parties have decided to part ways by mutual consent.

KR head coach Tony Smith said: “After many discussions with Joe, we sat down together and I think the best thing for him and his career is to go and be a starting player and play regular rugby.

“I’d like to thank him for everything and we will be keeping an eye on him for the coming seasons and watching him develop and get better.

“It's been a pleasure working with him so far and look forward to anything that might happen in the future.”
