HMS Prince of Wales is finally in Liverpool and will be open for visitors for the very first time today.

The huge warship made her journey up the River Mersey yesterday in heavy icy rain and gusty winds guided by three tugboats and HMS Charger.

After turning around in the Mersey she finally docked at Liverpool Cruise Terminal where she will remain for a week until Friday, March 6.

The 65,000 tonne vessel which has a company of 700 sailors - increased to around 1,600 with aircraft on board - arrived to dozens of well wishers on the waterfront.

Today, people who bagged themselves free tickets will go on board the ship for a tour of the huge aircraft carrier.

The weather is set to be slightly better than yesterday and dozens of visitors are expected to head to the Pier Head to have a look at the ship up close.
