The devastated family of a baby girl who tragically died just hours after being born had today laid their 'little princess' to rest.
Baby Addison Marilyn Lea Stevenson arrived into the world by emergency cesarean in September but sadly passed away in her parents arms, Donna Lea and Nathan Stevenson.
This morning, mourners turned out at Carmountside Crematorium in Stoke-on-Trent to say their final goodbyes, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live.
The baby's family wore pink and white in memory of Addison. They entered the crematorium to Dani and Lizzy’s Dancing in the Sky whilst carrying the tot's coffin.
Addison's gran Pam Kirkham wrote a poem in memory of her ‘angel’.
She wrote: “You came into our life but only for a while. We got to hold and cuddle you but will never see you smile.
“The angels came and got you, they couldn't let you stay. They needed you in heaven so they took you straight away. But with you went a piece of me, my heart was torn in two. One piece stayed with me and the other went with you.
“You will never be forgotten. I will miss you everyday. Sleep tight my little angel. It should not have been this way. My precious Addison Marilyn. Nana loves and misses you today, tomorrow, and always.”
Addison also leaves behind siblings Danny, Skye, Destiny and Troy - as well as grandparents Pam, Martin, Viv and Andrew.
Celebrant Michaela Warrillio led the ceremony.
She said: “The journey of grief is long and those who walk it should not have to walk it alone.
“I know that over the coming days and months you will support each other with kindness, love and tolerance just as you have been doing over the past weeks.
“It may seem strange to you all that through this excruciating pain we should be celebrating Addison's short life. But she was conceived in love. Carried by her mum through a stressful pregnancy with love and hope for the future and then being so perfect as Addison was when she was born; it’s most definitely worthy of celebration.
“We will celebrate the life of Addison Marilyn. A name that was carefully chosen for her by her mum and dad with Marilyn being chosen to honour Donna's late friend.
“The name Marilyn means ‘wished for child’ and no child has been more wished for than Donna and Nathan’s little princess.
“It seems beyond harsh that we are saying farewell before we’ve actually been able to say hello. In her brief few hours of life Addison touched each of you in her own way. As a baby daughter, a granddaughter, sister or the child of someone that you each care for very dearly.
“Today must affirm the love that Addison was and is, and will continue to be for each of you.
“The word love is very overused but is an extremely powerful word. What hit me immensely was the love this family has for each other and how loved baby Addison is. Love may change its form but love will never die.”
How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding was played during the service alongside a slideshow of memories featuring Addison.
Michaela added: “She may have only been here for a few hours but each of you can feel that incredible love and it will be that incredible love that each of you will never forget but will also help you through this journey of grief.
“I know that Donna and Nathan take comfort in believing their sleeping angel will now be dancing with those who have gone before as in Nana Mel, cousin Danny, grandad Rory and Nathan’s brother, Scott.
“There was so much they had planned for baby Addison. It would’ve been her first Christmas this year and then there were trips out that Donna and her friend Lil had planned with taking part in play groups alike and sharing the magical experience of motherhood together.
“Although this has now cruelly been snatched away from them, what will be a constant is the unconditional love.
“One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car you drove, what kind of house you lived in, how much money you had in the bank nor what clothes you liked; but the world has been made a better place because Donna and Nathan have had their beautiful angel Addison in their lives.
"They have asked me to thank you all for your support and messages. You have all been incredibly kind.
“Donna and Nathan, there is no one here who could imagine the devastation you are feeling. Addison will always be a part of your lives no matter what.”
Caring friends of Nathan and Donna had launched a fund-raising drive to help with the costs of the funeral with the couple continuing to express their gratitude to them for their kind efforts.
