Hamilton Accies Women ran up a 5-0 win over Stirling University on opening day of the SWPL2.

The students, who were relegated from SWPL1 last season, were looking to get off to a good start, but standing in their way was a hungry Hamilton side looking to achieve promotion.

Competitive from the first whistle, both sides battled for possession, and Dionne Brown had the first real chance for Accies, sending a shot narrowly wide.

Brown did open the scoring, though, finishing well from a move involving Nina Fitzsimmons, Ellie Kane and MT Gardiner.

Accies doubled their lead when Megan Quinn latched onto a Georgie McTear through ball and found Kane, who slotted into the net.

Hamilton got their third from the spot after Brown was felled in the box and captain Amy Anderson converted.

The hosts started to play with a bit of style after that and grabbed their fourth when Nichola Sturrock crossed for Lauren Evans to head into the net.

Goal number five came shortly after that, with Gardiner floating the ball over the head of stranded keeper Cochran.

Hamilton will now prepare for the visit of Rangers in the SWPL Cup Group B on Sunday, which kicks off at 3pm at the Fountain of Youth Stadium.
