An eight-year-old girl was killed by a crocodile as her family watched on in horror during a swimming trip.

Suci Ramadhani was swallowed by the animal despite locals on the Indonesian island of Buru rushing to the scene with spears to stab the croc.

The girl had been swimming in the Teluk Kayeli river when the attack happened.

Her friends were nearby when she was snatched in the water and dragged away.

Korpos Rahmad Namlea, a search and rescue official, told how locals managed to spear the creature as the young girl's head was still visible in its mouth.

However when they cut into the stomach of the crocodile after it was killed, the remains of the girl were not inside.

Suci's remains were discovered two days later.

Namlea said: "The river is known to be infested with saltwater crocodiles.

“At least two crocodile attacks have occurred in the past 10 years."

Indonesian locals slaughtered 300 crocodiles back in July 2018 in a string of revenge attacks after a man was eaten in West Papau.
