Gemma Atkinson says it felt ‘weird’ dancing with boyfriend Gorka on Strictly Xmas Special after falling in love on show

GEMMA Atkinson has admitted it felt "weird" dancing with boyfriend Gorka Marquez on the Strictly Christmas Special after the couple fell in love on the show.

The couple met during the 2017 series while Gemma was partnered with pro dancer Aljaz Skorjanec and Gorka with Alexandra Burke, and confirmed their relationship once the series ended.

Gemma, 35, and Gorka, 29, welcomed daughter Mia in July and just five months later, the couple are taking to the dance floor for the Christmas Special.

Speaking about her return to the show, Gemma told The Sun Online: "It is nice when you think of it like that I mean, when we did the dress rehearsal today, it felt weird.

"Because it’s where we met and then when you think we're all now here and we've got a little girl, because this is the last time I’ll be dancing on the Strictly ever.

"The last time on the floor, so it's nice that it's with Gorka and Aljaz will be watching."

Gemma reached the semi-finals of the series but still felt nervous returning to the dance floor.

She explained: "It's weird. Having like the panic again, and the nerves, but then it's nice to have all the fun side without the pressure of thinking, ‘we're going to go home’.

"So it's kind of all the fun without all the stress, but then I just crapped myself in the dress run.

"Gorka was like ‘It’s Christmas, it’s all us lot, no one is going home, why are you nervous?' And I was like 'I don’t know?'

Gemma shows off her incredible post-baby body in the Christmas Special in a red jumpsuit.

But while she's returned to fitness training since having Mia, Gemma admitted dancing the Jive had been hard going.

She said: "I kind of feel because it's the Jive, the dance I struggled with the most when I did the series, because it's so full on, and my cardio fitness isn't what it was before I had her.

"It’s still alright, but halfway through the dance Gorka goes to me, ‘keep going’ and I'm like ‘I'm trying but I can’t breathe’."

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special airs on Christmas Day at 4.40pm on BBC One.
