Gareth Southgate could name extra standby players when he unveils his squad for the Euros.

Southgate will name 26 players for the tournament on Tuesday, May 25.

But the Three Lions boss could have as many as 11 stars involved with Manchester United in the Europa League final the next day and also the all-English Champions League final on May 29.

That will be a major concern as the England squad meets up that weekend while they also face Austria and Romania on June 2 and 6 respectively in their final warm-up games.

They will struggle to make up numbers for training and will also be concerned that United, Chelsea and Manchester City players return fit and ready after their European finals.

That has left the England boss seriously considering naming some extra standby players.

But it will be made clear that they will not report up and it may include under-21s players as they are already out of their European Championships this summer.

It could give the likes of Everton’s Ben Godfrey a chance and also afford Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson extra time to get fit while the final UEFA deadline to register squads is June 1.

England’s first game at the Euros is against Croatia at Wembley on June 13 followed by Scotland and Czech Republic.
