Matthew Olosunde's road to recovery for Preston North End has encountered a mild bump with Frankie McAvoy revealing the full-back will be out for a further week with a tight hamstring.

The 23-year-old summer signing from Rotherham United is yet to make his North End debut, having picked up an Achilles knock in the pre-season friendly against St Johnstone while away at a Scotland training camp.

Olosunde lasted just under an hour earlier this week for North'End's reserves in the 3-0 loss to Bolton Wanderers before he was replaced.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's visit of Luton Town to Deepdale, McAvoy confirmed that the defender will be out for a further seven days with a tight hamstring, but this is not a serious problem.

But the Scot gave a positive update on the fitness of forward Ched Evans, who has not featured for North End since the loss on the road to Huddersfield Town in August.

The former Sheffield United forward is now back on the grass running and McAvoy is hopeful that a return to training for Evans is not too far away.

McAvoy said: "We were hoping we could get Matthew Olosunde on the bench last night but he felt a bit of tightness in his hamstring from the reserve game the other day.

"It will only be seven days for him, it’s nothing major thankfully.

"The injury to his (Evans) foot has been a tough one. He’s been out on the grass running and it’s a case of getting him back in to training when we can, hopefully he’s not too far away.

"We need to really focus on trying to win as many games as we can in the Championship and move ourselves up the league.

"We have three wins out of 14 and we know that’s not good enough and we need to do better, I know that, and the coaching staff and players know that.”
