A four-month-old baby has been found dead in a house, with a man and a woman arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

Police were called to a report of a sudden death on Buckley Lane in Rochdale in the early hours of Monday morning.

A four-month-old baby was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A woman, aged 27, and man, aged 39, have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect, the Manchester Evening News reports.

They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 3.15am on 22 February to a report of a sudden death on Buckley Lane in Rochdale.

"Emergency services attended but sadly a four-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 27-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and bailed pending further enquiries.

Enquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances around the death."
