Steve Bruce may struggle to get additions to Newcastle United this month - even though his side are struggling.
There was hope that the Magpies could bring in one or two loan signings to bolster the squad but there's a feeling Bruce may struggle to convince the hierarchy to spend what little money there is in the pot.
Speaking on the Everything is Black and White Podcast, our chief sports writer Lee Ryder was asked about the latest on the January transfer window.
"Bruce started the month speaking optimistically about it saying 'oh, we've got a few things bubbling away - loan deals can be a possibility.'
"But since then, it's all gone very quiet.
"While there are a few names that we've reported such as Brandon Williams, Steve Bruce probably isn't in a position to go knocking on the door and say 'look, we need to get two or three players in' because they'll turn around say, 'well, you've had money to spend, you've got a full squad, and you've had 18 months, so you have to make it work.'
"That's pretty much what I believe the situation will be behind the scenes."

With pressure growing on Bruce there has been plenty of talk about his future - the club have failed to win in nine games and while they have a seven-point cushion on the drop zone, look likely to be dragged into the relegation fight.
But even if Ashley decided to sack Bruce, would the replacement really be a name to get fans excited again.
"I don't think it would be another Rafa Benitez but more likely to be someone who is out of work.
"Someone like Tony Pulis or Mark Hughes, those kinds of names who've done the job.
"Obviously, Sam Allardyce isn't available because he's got another survival job on his hand at West Brom. Whether he would come back to Newcastle, we don't know but he reckons he got asked to do the job two summers ago before Bruce got the job.
"We've talked about Steve Bruce leaving, but if somebody else comes in, then the first thing they would ask is 'right, have I got any money to spend, can I bring some players in? Can I bring some people in that I know are going to do a job for us?'
"And if the answer is the same as what's Bruce is getting, then they're probably not going to take the job.
"So it's almost a vicious circle at the minute for Newcastle and they need to get results quickly."
