EastEnders viewers were stunned as Phil Mitchell attempted to murder Jack Branning in a vicious assault.

In Tuesday's dramatic episode, Jack was kidnapped and taken to The Arches where Phil was waiting for him.

After learning pregnant wife Sharon's baby wasn't his Phil wrongly believed Jack was the dad after seeing them together - while he has no idea son-in-law Keanu Taylor is the real father.

Ben Mitchell faced a race against time to stop his dad killing Jack, with Phil taking things too far.

He chucked him into the pit in The Arches, before savagely beating him up leaving him bloodied and bruised.

After kicking and punching him, Phil decided to murder him in the most brutal of ways.

He doused the copper in petrol, before flicking his lighter to set the character on fire.

Just as he went to burn him alive, Ben and Keanu raced in and stopped him.

Keanu quickly realised it should have been him in the line of fire, but did his best to help Jack.

It wasn't enough though, as Phil threatened to beat Jack again with a wrench.

Suddenly, he pulled a gun out and aimed it at his head ready to pull the trigger.

As Jack begged for his life, and claimed innocence, Phil didn't want to hear it.

Ben and Keanu tried to make Phil see sense, but the episode ended with Phil about to shoot him.
