EastEnders has teased a first look at Janine Butcher's explosive return to Albert Square after seven years.

Charlie Brooks' mischievous character fled from Walford to Paris in 2014 to meet her daughter Scarlett after she was found not guilty of murdering Michael Moon - the father of her little girl.

Her whereabouts have been unknown since then, but her sudden reappearance is likely to send shockwaves around the square.

It was announced in April that the supervillain was making her comeback to the BBC soap, and now the news has been confirmed.

In new images, Janine - who has been at the centre of some of the soap's most turbulent storylines - poses outside of Walford East tube station, with a huge grin on her face.

She looked excited to be back and ready to cause some more drama.

Speaking about her return, actress Charlie said: "I am beyond excited to be slipping back into Janine's shoes and returning to the square.

"The time feels right and I can't wait to find out what she's been up to for the last seven years!

"She is and always has been so much fun to play. Feels a bit like coming home. It's good to be back."

Following her exit in 2014, Charlie hinted she would be back one day.

"Never say never. I've loved my time on the show and loved playing Janine so I'd hate to think that I might never get to play her again, but it's time for a new challenge in my life," she said.
