A drunk man used a ladder and mallet to break into his own home because he didn’t want his £7 kebab to get cold.

Reese Barr, 25, had drank 20 pints of beer and at least five Jaeger Bombs when he returned to his home in Leeds at 1am on July 12. He forgot that his dad, who had been out with him for part of the evening, had then gone to his partner’s house – leaving him with no way to get inside.

At first he tried to sleep in a bar he had built for himself in the garden, but after failing to get comfortable he grabbed a 20ft ladder and leaned it up against his bedroom window. CCTV footage from the house then shows him breaking the glass with a mallet, while holding a bag with kebab in it in the other hand.

He then guided the kebab through the gap before diving in afterwards so that it could be enjoyed in the comfort of his own room.

Reece didn’t know how he’d got inside the house until he woke up and saw the broken glass and ladder against the window. He then checked the CCTV and saw himself staggering up the ladder at night.

He insisted it was ‘worth it’ to be able to eat his food while it was warm. He said: ‘The mission was to get inside and eat my kebab before it went cold. The kebab was safe and nobody was seriously injured – and it was definitely worth saving.’

Noting that he was ‘very drunk’, he added that he found the footage ‘hilarious’ and was ‘pretty proud’ of his actions considering the state he was in.

He continued: ‘I thought there was no way I could get up there when I watched it back. I obviously thought it would be a good idea to scale this ladder at one in morning with a hammer in my hand.’

Reece said he would usually drink around 10-15 pints, but ‘got carried away’ at the pub after meeting up with friends for the first time since lockdown. The damage to the window is now set to cost him around £300.

He added: ‘A couple of cuts and a boarded up window, but other than that everything is fine. I showed my dad the footage the next day and he laughed and said “as long as you’re all right, that’s the main thing”.

‘He couldn’t believe it, he was like “there’s no way you’ve got up there”.’
