It's official, Sam Fender 's second album 'Seventeen Going Under' is Number One.

The North Shields star was surprised by Ant and Dec who presented him with the famous Number One trophy in the middle of a cafe.

The Geordie presenters interrupted the singer's cup of tea to share with him the brilliant news.

Sam then took to the Radio 1 chart show with Scott Mills and said Ant and Dec walked into the room and congratulated him with the announcement.

He said: “It’s mental because Ant and Dec have just walked into the cafe we’re in” exclaimed the star. “The popped [the trophy] down, said ‘well done bonny lad’ and left!”

Sam's army of loyal fans made sure the singer-songwriter went to Number One again after his first album 'Hypersonic Missiles' also hit the top spot in 2019.

'Seventeen Going Under' is also the biggest seller in independent record shops this week with a whopping 44,000 chart sales.

He beat international superstars such as Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and The Script for the top spot on the album charts.

The North Shields star later Tweeted: 'We did it!!! Number 1 album!!! That’s two in a row!!! I can’t believe it! Ant and Dec came along to give me it, best surprise ever!! Thank you to the best fans in the world! See you at the arenas you absolute beauties!!!'

The album features songs such as 'Spit Of You', 'Aye', 'Get You Down' as well as the titular track, 'Seventeen Going Under'.

The title anthem has also reached Number 26 on the singles charts, his first top 40 hit.

Sam is due to go on a UK tour which went on general sale earlier today in the Spring of 2022.
