A further 51 people have died in Scotland after contracting coronavirus - including seven in Ayrshire and Arran.

The new rise in fatalities was confirmed by the Scottish Government this afternoon and brings the nations death toll to 3,848.

A breakdown shows four of the new deaths were in South Ayrshire, two in North Ayrshire and one in East Ayrshire.

A total of 958 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across the country with 89 of those in the NHS Ayrshire and Arran health board region.

Nationally, there are 982 people battling the disease in hospital; 69 in intensive care.

In Ayrshire, the number of hospital patients fell from 95 to 87 in the last 24 hours. Fewer than five people remain in intensive care.
