Coronation Street's Alina Pop is set to stay on the cobbles for longer than first expected.
Ruxandra Porojnicu, 27, joined the ITV soap in 2019 and her character has been a huge hit leading to bosses reportedly wanting to extend her contract.
A source told The Sun : "Ruxandra’s character Alina Pop is currently involved in her second big storyline where she is having a fling with Tyrone Dobbs – and she is being lined up for plenty more."
Ruxandra's character has put the cat among the pigeons and derailed one of the soap's longest surviving couples in recent weeks.
Events caused Tyrone to brutally end things with sweetheart Fiz.
The mechanic pulled the breaks on the romance as he confessed to developing feelings for the younger woman, Alina.
Tyrone had previously accused Fiz of calling immigration on Alina and the pair were unable to get the relationship back on track.
Elsewhere, Charlotte Jordan is also set to extend her stay on the soap.
The 25-year-old who plays Daisy Midgeley, the manipulative step-daughter of Rovers Return landlady Jenny Connor, joined the soap at the back end of last year and has proven to be a popular addition.
The source explained that her "blossoming popularity" had led to a suggestion that the on-off character will become more of a mainstay in the near future.
Last month Charlotte revealed her hopes that her character would have as big an impact on fans of the soap as the shameless Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford.
“I’d love her to be an iconic bad girl, why not?," she revealed.
The source went on to admit: "Having fresh, young blood back on the street has been really exciting."
The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.
The prolonged stays follow departures of some of the show's bigger female characters in the past two years. This has included Lucy Fallon, 25, Faye Brookes, 33, Bhavna Limbachia, 36, and Katie McGlynn, 27.
