Cops hunt man after women sexually assaulted as they escaped from ‘taxi’ driver who drove wrong way & offered them drink

POLICE are hunting a man after two women were sexually assaulted as they escaped from a "taxi" driver who drove the wrong way and offered them a drink.

The two women, in their 20s, had left a nightclub in Westminster before getting into a vehicle - which they believed they had pre-booked.

At 3am on Sunday morning, the pair realised that the driver was travelling in the opposite direction to where they needed to go.

The driver then offered them a drink - which they refused.

The women then escaped from the vehicle in Islington, North London.

As they got out, the driver sexually assaulted the women before driving off towards Holloway Road, Islington.

Cops have now released an image of the man they would like to speak to as their investigation continues.

The Met Police said in a statement today: "Officers investigating a sexual assault in Islington have released an image of a man they would like to speak to.

"Police were called at 04:15hrs on Sunday, 25 July to reports that a woman had been sexually assaulted in the vicinity of Hornsey Street, N7.

"Officers attended and established the woman, aged in her 20s, had been with a friend when they left a nightclub in Westminster at approximately 03:00hrs.

"The pair got into a vehicle which they believed to have been a private hire vehicle that they had pre-booked before leaving the club.

"They became suspicious when the driver began travelling in the opposite direction before offering them a drink. They refused and left the vehicle in Hornsey Street, N7.

"As they exited the vehicle, the driver sexually assaulted the women before driving off towards Holloway Road. The victim called police to report the incident and officers attended the scene.

"An investigation was launched and detectives carried out a number of enquiries, including reviewing ANPR data and recovering CCTV footage. They are now releasing an image of a man they would like to speak to.

"Anyone who recognises the man in the image is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 1441/25Jul. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
