Community Stars Awards 2020: Voluntary and Community Group

THE annual Community Stars Awards is back for its tenth year, giving you the chance to say a huge thank you those enriching the lives of Bradford people.

The T&A will be looking at each of the nine categories up for grabs in the coming days with the latest focus on the Voluntary and Community Group Award.

Hundreds of nominations flood in each year for the award, sponsored by Volunteering Bradford, which looks to recognise the dedication and sacrifices of our kind-hearted volunteer community in Bradford.

Cllr Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “The Community Stars awards give us the chance to celebrate the real stars of our community and the positive impact they have on society.

"The people who get nominated for these are what makes Bradford district such a special place to live and work in.

“This year, perhaps more than ever before, we have seen our district come together to help each other during the coronavirus pandemic. This year let’s celebrate all these people and all the amazing people who make a significant contribution to both individuals and communities."

In last year's awards, Childsplay Neighbourhood Nursery won the award for supporting families in need with food, clothing and furniture as well as skills training.

For the Voluntary and Community Group Award, people will be asked to describe what this person or group does in a voluntary capacity, the qualities that you think makes this person/group special and if there is a recent example of something they have done.

The awards, organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council, are designed to give recognition to those striving to make a difference in their local communities.

Our readers are being asked to nominate people before judges whittle them down to a shortlist of nominees.

Nominations can only be submitted online.

The finalists will be revealed in November.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will not be a ceremony this year but winners will receive a sparkling, silver medal.

The Telegraph & Argus will be revealing more about each category over the coming days.
