Cops in Scotland have sealed off a crime scene after two bodies were found in a holiday home.

A neighbour described the area as "swarming with police" following the grisly discovery at the Mergie Holiday Cottages near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.

A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland is currently in attendance in Rickarton near Stonehaven after receiving a report about the deaths of two adults.

"Police were informed at about 1.30pm on Thursday and inquiries to establish the full circumstances are at an early stage."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended the house but said the matter was passed over to police.

A spokeswoman said a crew from Aberdeen Central station was called to the scene at around 4.30pm yesterday and stayed there late into the night.

The two bodies have not yet been identified and emergency services have stayed at the scene through the night.

Several police cars have remained outside the property.

One local told The Press and Journal: "The police came to our door in a rush, but we have had no idea what has been going on all day.

"This is really, really sad news as this is such a quiet area.

"It has really sent a shiver down my spine."
