Bolton Wanderers took a step closer to Wembley as they defeated Fleetwood Town 1-0 in the Last 32 of the Papa John's Trophy on a sodden Tuesday night.

Kieran Lee's composed first-half finish after great work from a returning Dapo Afolayan and Eoin Doyle was the difference.

Here's how the players rated.

Dixon - Alert and quick off his line to snuff out danger and was on hand to make a crucial save in the final 10 minutes, but otherwise very little to do. 7

Aimson - Not much threat down his side but got forward well and was good on the ball. 6.5

Baptiste - Commanding display in the heart of the back-three, but struggled a bit when moved to right-back. 6

Johnston - Dominant in the air and made one great defensive header in the first-half. Was given a bit of grief by Fleetwood's bright spark Cian Haye but made a vital tackle late on as Fleetwood pressed for a leveller. 6.5

Gordon - Continued to apply himself well in an unfamiliar position and always looked to get on the ball going forward, did well to help create a chance for Doyle at the start of the second half. Was less involved going forward when switched to left-back, but made an important interception from Fleetwood cross. 6

Thomason - Tidy on the ball and plenty of energy. Showed great discipline to sit deep and mop up trouble. 7.5

Lee - A real composed finish to give Bolton the lead and involved with most of Bolton's attacks. 7

John - Wanderers' brightest attacker in the early stages and a constant threat. Beaten a few times by Hayes though. 6.5

Amaechi - Still finding his feet but showed flashes of his skill on the ball. Especially came to life in the closing stages as he started to repeatedly dribble past his marker with some dazzling footwork, but failed to hit the mark with any shots. 6.5

Doyle - Excellently weighted pass to set up the opener but starved of many real chances of his own, though did see one effort brilliantly saved by Billy Crellin. 6

Afolayan - A quiet return to the team for Afolayan as he was snuffed out for much of the first half and his second-half chances were put wide. Still showed his class with a perfect flick to lead to the opener, though. 6

Pettifer - Positive and exciting on the ball. Came close to getting an assist after working his way to the byline and cutting it back, but a defender managed to bundle it out for a goal-kick. 6.5

Kachunga - Battled hard when leading the line. 5.5

Delfouneso - Quiet. 5

Tweedley - Didn't get involved much. 5

Henry - Ran for every ball and was very quick while doing so. 6
