A Glaswegian pub is offering free face masks with every bottle of Corona beer it sells.
In a bid to boost sales amid the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, Oswald’s bar started this initiative on Saturday and since then claimed to have seen a surge in sales.
Bar owner Brian Matthews said "We bought 500 and sold about 300 Coronas over the weekend.”
The deal appears to have gone down well with regulars too, Marcus Porter, 24, from Govan, said: “I’ve never seen Corona being bought so much in one bar.”
The resulting panic caused by the epidemic has led to a shortage in face masks across China and surrounding nations like Indonesia.
Brian Matthews acknowledged this and instead that he was protecting locals by giving them a chance to have a mask “just in case” the disease continues to spread .
Matthews admitted the deal was a “bit tongue in cheek”.
It comes amid heightened fears that Corona beer produced in Mexico could be the source of the virus.
Speculation ran wild on social media and searches for "beer virus" spiked nationwide and in places as far as India and Brazil.
Youtube celebrity and influencer Brad Holmes took advantage of this buzz and filmed his girlfriend getting rid of the beer in a gloves and a breathing mask.
He said: "What the f*** are you doing? Why are you pouring my f***ing beers down the sink?"
