Manchester United fans are raving over loanee James Garner after he scored his first goal of the season for Nottingham Forest in their 2-0 Championship win over Peterborough United on Saturday.
The 20-year-old also grabbed an assist as his side stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.
He got the match’s opener, after prodding the ball home from close range, to make up for a howler of an open-goal skew kick from Lewis Grabban.
Garner joined Forest on a season-long loan in the summer after a successful six-month spell with the club in the second half of last season, when he scored four goals in 20 games.
The midfielder had spent the first half of the 2020/21 season at Watford in last year’s promotion campaign.
Prior to this, he had made seven first team appearances for Manchester United, making his debut as a 90th-minute substitute in the club’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in February 2019.
A month later he signed a contract extension that keeps him at Old Trafford until June 2022.
United fans have been tracking the youngster’s progress ever since and many on Twitter shared their delight at seeing him open his account for the season.
@Utdshow: Put him in the midfield with Fred.
@dr00ni: Still wondering why we let him go with our midfield problems.
@mufc_Corecion: Send McTominay and recall this lad.
@AmBigSerge: Looking forward to seeing him back in a United shirt some time soon.
@utd_thoughts: Are you watching Ralf?
@AmbyEdema: Happy for this lad.
@nafisMUFC: He really wants his name to be known by Ralf Rangnick as it seems.
@UTDRian: Deffo one for the future for us.
Garner has played 17 times for Nottingham Forest this season, having made his England Under-21 debut in their 2-0 Euro Qualification win over Kosovo in September.
