Strictly Come Dancing is officially in full swing, as a special launch show kicked off the new series on Saturday night.

But ahead of her stint on the show, AJ Odudu took her Strictly excitement to a new level, admitting she once broke her toe watching the show at home.

The presenter has been partnered with Kai Widdrington for the new series - and she is hoping to have more success during this series, compared to her attempt at dancing at home.

Host Claudia Winkleman quizzed her about what happened, asking: "You love Strictly so much, you once broke a bone. Can you expand?"

AJ made the admission as she chatted with Claudia on the launch show

And AJ confessed: "Oh my god, honestly I was soaking it up in my living room, dancing to the Strictly Come Dancing theme tune. Only went and broke my toe on the disco ball.

"And yes I do have a disco ball in my living room."

AJ is ready to accept criticism during her time on the show, and having experienced a number of rejections and knock backs, she admits she has "a bit of a thick skin".

"I hope that I take criticism really well," she told OK! magazine.

"I feel like, ultimately, my background and my experience as a TV presenter will lend itself to having a bit of a thick skin.

"There's been a lot of rejections and knock backs, both in society and professionally, so hopefully I'll take it how I've taken criticism all my life, which is, you know, be upset about it a little bit and then learn from it, which is the biggest point of the criticism."

AJ knows the judges - Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and new recruit Anton Du Bek e - "know their stuff inside out", so she is keen to listen to their advice to improve her dancing skills as the series goes on.

AJ and Kai will dance together on the new series of Strictly

Her mum will be nowhere near the dance floor, but AJ has revealed that she is the one that is most nervous about her stint on the dance show, which kicks off next Saturday.

Speaking before tonight's show, AJ admitted her mum was looking forward to the launch programme because she felt it would settle her nerves the most.

But AJ has revealed that her own heart is going a mile a minute as she prepares for her first dance.

*Strictly Come Dancing continues next weekend, with the first live show on Saturday 25th September on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
