DRYING LONG or short hair with a round brush and a hairdryer is a major feat of coordination, and most of us will never be able to replicate a salon blow-dry at home – until now that is.
Hair drying brushes combine the hairdryer and the round brush into one – hot air comes out of holes between the bristles to dry and smooth your hair in a single step. Some brushes even rotate to make the process easier.
It’s an idea that’s existed since the seventies but the hair-drying brush has surged in popularity once again thanks to beauty vloggers.
If you’re a frizzy-haired person who has never tried one of these new-and-improved hair-drying brushes before, it’s definitely worth giving one a go – you might find it a revolution!
As with any heated styling appliance, hair drying brushes can damage your hair, so it’s best to always use a low setting and a heat-protection spray product when styling to help keep hair stress to a minimum. You can try a voluminous blow out, loose waves, curls, a flicky fringe or just a straight smooth blow dry.
Here's our selection of the best hair-drying brushes, air stylers and hot brushes on the market.

1. We tested: Dyson Airwrap Complete Hair Styler
If you want something luxury and have the cash to splash, but you’re also really worried about damaging your tresses with heated styling tools, then this do-it-all styler is the one for you.
The Dyson Airwrap can create large or small curls, a smooth sleek blow-dry or sky-high volume straight from damp, all without going over 150°C.
The smoothing brush, in particular, is truly innovative: it makes use of a scientific phenomenon called the Coanda effect which uses high speed jets of air to wrap the hair around the styler for you. With different nozzles and brush heads there truly is something for everyone. Plus, we think this gorgeous carry case looks great on any bathroom shelf.
We tested it out and loved it. Read our review of the Dyson Airwrap here.
2. We tested: Revamp Progloss Airstyle
This mid-range hair-drying brush from Boots is a versatile choice, with five special attachments to help you create different looks from big bouncy curls to a glossy blow-dry.
The styler features four heat and two-speed settings including a cool shot to help set your style and has a rubberised black body that’s both durable and comfy to hold. It also features a function Ionic Jet technology - for natural sleek and shine.
We found the brush easy to use, enjoyed playing around with the different attachments and found the results lasted until our next hair wash.
3. We tested: BaByliss PRO Ionic Airstyler 50mm
This airstyler from BaByliss has three heat settings, a ceramic coated barrel and an ionic conditioning system.
We tested out the brush and were super impressed with the ionic styling feature as it smoothed out our flyaways.
The brush is easy to use, saves us faffing around with a brush and hairdryer, and gave us good volume as well.
It's worth noting that the brush head can't be detached from the styler, which makes cleaning it a bit fiddly.
4. We tested: Diva Pro Styling Precious Metals Straight & Smooth Hair Brush
First things first, this is more of a hair straightener than a hair drying brush and therefore it's recommended that you use it on dry hair.
The bristles are infused with macadamia, argan oil and keratin which gave our hair a glossy finish.
We found the heated brush really quick and easy to use, as we could straighten large sections of hair at once.
We love it for days where we're short on time or want to smooth out kinks from hair ties.
5. We tested: Revamp Progloss Perfect Blow Dry Volume & Shine Air Styler
The Revamp Progloss brush is designed to dry, detangle, smooth and volumise your hair, and we found it did just that.
It has a ceramic barrel with 4 ionic jets and 3 heat settings and the brush is infused with keratin, argan oil and coconut oil. Fancy.
Despite it being quite a large air styler, it's pretty lightweight which we liked.
The size of the brush means it might not be suitable for those with short hair, but those with shoulder-length or longer tresses will likely find it easy to use.
We found it gave us a salon-standard blow-dry look, but it did take us a bit of time to achieve.
