The University of the South Pacific (USP) Council’s confidence has been restored following assurance from the Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, that Fiji will be restoring its grants.
The first council meeting since the return of USP vice-chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia took place on Thursday.
He expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro was also in attendance.
Professor Pal described the meeting as productive, especially with feedback received from council members.
“Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance have assured us and the council that Fiji will be restoring its grant in the upcoming budget,” said Professor Pal.
“We have provided an update on all the key developments at the university, and we have just a few papers to review.”
The USP Council meeting is scheduled to be completed yesterday.
