A new partnership between The University of Fiji (UniFiji) and Dawn Energy Renewable (Fiji) Ltd is set to benefit students and staff.

The partnership was signed with a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organisations.

Vice chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem said the MOU would facilitate student/industry attachments with partial/full remuneration, joint research activities of staff from both organisations.

“Dawn has been very generous with its student attachment benefits to our students.

“Normally, when our students take industry attachments to gain work experience they hardly ever receive any wages or allowances.

“If they are lucky, they will get bus fare and some money for lunch.

Professor Shameem said Dawn had previously provided the university’s Saweni Campus with solar lighting.

Plans were in place for additional solar investments, until COVID-19 halted further development.

“This is a future where Fiji leads the charge in combating climate change and together we will ensure that Fiji’s future is brighter and cleaner,” Mr Huang said
