Thanks to e-commerce training from Business Assistance Fiji (BAF), people like local craftswoman, Akosita Lovodua, are now able to advertise their work on a digital platform.

The 37-year-old works on designing visual arts, painting and other crafts, particularly in tapa designing.

She registered her business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 from her home at Votualevu, Nadi.

Her business is Veilomani Creation.

Workshop

She was one of 21 participants trained during the BAF E-Commerce workshop at Nadi Mercure Hotel.

BAF is a Government-supported company whose members include the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Women in Business and Fiji Commerce and Employees Federation.

The four organisations formed the company limited by guarantee to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Fiji. The Government supports them by providing funds for the company.

The objective of this company is to support MSMEs by advising, assisting and linking them up with the service providers.

Ms Lovodua said, “I never advertised on social media before or on digital platforms because of the intellectual property rights on copycats using artworks.”

Advice on e-commerce

“I have been advised to copyright corporate my artwork and also seek legal advice before actually setting up,” Ms Lovodua said.
