Students Brave Rain To Upskill At Pacific Polytech

Students from Nasinu, Nausori, Tailevu and Naitasiri braved the rain yesterday to enrol for competency training courses offered by the Nausori Campus of the Pacific Polytech.

Campus coordinator Maikali Naikawakawavesi said that given the large number, 10 lots of about 200 students each were given counselling on available courses.

“We were able to deliver vital information to the students”, Mr Naikawakawavesi said.

“We informed them of the Government’s support for 1,800 courses of up to 1-month duration in Tourism and Hospitality, Automotive and Construction trades”.

He said there were a number of other areas in which students were seeking upskilling.

“One favourite area was Aged Care and Adult Health Care. Unfortunately, these are outside the current 1,800 priority areas. We are confident that the Government will expand the list of areas for support”, he said.

Acting Head of Department of Accounting Josua Tuisawau said there was an immense interest of people in upgrading their skills for meaningful employment.

“People are still coming to the office now. We have advised people close to Suva to join the Nabua Campus, and those from other areas to join Tavua campus, Lautoka Campus or Labasa Campus.”

The Pacific Polytech is a new techical training institution formed in Fiji to boost technical training and skill development. It is headed by veteran TVET trainer and manager, Peni Taoi.

The Nausori Campus is located at Vuci South Rd in Nausori.
