Lawyer and Fiji Rural Women’s Empowerment Network (FRWEN) founder, Sabrina Iqbal Khan-Sharma, continues to uplift the lives of Fijian women.

FRWEN is an organisation initially set up to break barriers and stigma for rural women in accessing educational initiatives.

“We are a base accessed by women and girls all over Fiji who desire to grow in knowledge and learning. What started as a small project with women and girls in Matawalu Village (Lautoka) has grown to be welcomed by many across the nation,” said Ms Khan-Sharma, who is the daughter of prominent Lautoka legal eagle, Iqbal Khan.

FRWEN participant Evelyn Baptist from Matawalu Village, outside Lautoka City, said they were happy and encouraged whenever they interacted with her.

“We don’t have big famous people come here to ask how we are doing. But when she is here, she is always down to earth and good to us,” she said.

“She comes to help and sit with us with the word of God. For Matawalu, Ms. Khan is a member of our family now. There isn’t anything our people won’t do for her. We want to say thank you for what you have done for our women and girls”
