A local seafarer training centre will be offering three new maritime logistics and transport training franchised programmes for shore-based workers in the maritime sector.

This was possible through a newly formed partnership between Fiji National University, Fiji Maritime Academy and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

CILT International is a professional body representing the transport and logistics industries worldwide.

They also offer programmes, and accreditations to existing programmes in the maritime logistics and transport sector as well.

FMA chief executive officer, Captain Rajitha Semage said a request for the Academy to consider offering maritime logistics and transport training was made few years ago.

“They have five levels of qualifications within their portfolio. FMA is offering the first three of the CILT qualifications,” Captain Rajitha said.

Captain Rajitha said enrollment for the programme would commence from 1 July and classes are to start from August.

He said the Academy will be hosting an industry awareness session at FMA this Friday June 30 to create awareness about the programme.
