Long Distance Running To Start Again

Nadi based Jet Runners Club is reviving their long distance running programme from Saturday, July 22.

Club president and race director Abhinesh Kumar said they intend to assist communities organize road races, track races, cross country and mountain running.

“Business-houses have indicated their support and hopefully we can revive minor sports like this,” Kumar said.

“Our main objective is to help our Fijian brothers and sisters live a healthy life style,” he said.

He added that fitness enhances healthy lifestyles and through this programme Fijians can be healthy.

“For a runner to form a running family unit, we need self-discipline, and right attitude. Jet Runners Club welcomes people from all walks of life so come and join us,” he added.

Kumar said competition encourages children to be part of this healthy programme.

Club members include Prashotam Lal, Bimlesh Kumar, Avikash Lal, Samulea Railoa, Ravneel Kumar and Jiten Prakash. They have won medals for Fiji in regional events like Melanesian Games, Pacific Mini Games, Pacific Games, Oceania Games, Oceania Cross Country Championships, and Oceania Masters Championship.

Some of them have represented Fiji in the World Cross Country Championship, World Road Relay Championship and the Commonwealth Games.

“We are pleased to make a strong comeback in running and I am thankful to some of our members who are planning to travel overseas at their own cost to participate in master events,” said Kumar.
