Grand Celebration To Be Held Today For Lautoka Blues

The members of the victorious Hyperchem pharmacy-sponsored Lautoka side will be hosted to a grand celebration in the Sugar City Lautoka today.

The members of the victorious Hyperchem pharmacy-sponsored Lautoka side will be hosted to a grand celebration in the Sugar City Lautoka today.

This is after the side edged Rewa 2-1 in the final at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

The Lautoka Blues win against Rewa which also ended their 21-year-old jinx in the Digicel Fiji FACT history.

Historically, the Blues had only won thrice (2000, 2002, and 2023) in the 32-year Fiji FACT competition since it started in 1991.

However, the Blues had played in the finals in 1999, and 2009.

Lautoka Football Association president Shalendra Prasad said the celebration was planned two weeks after the win to formulate a proper programme.

He said the celebration will start with a march which will begin at 1pm from Shelly Park, right through the city.

Mr Prasad said the team and everyone will gather at Churchill Park ground two to mark the event.

“This is a significant and grand celebration for the effort to end the 21-year winless jinx in the Fiji FACT,” he said.

He said that the major sponsor Hyperchem Pharmacy has handed over the bonus to the players.

“There is prize money from Lautoka Football that will be shared by the team officials and the 22-member team.

“The good news is that we have other sponsors such as GO2 Solution and Punjas & Sons who have come on board. We are very thankful to them,” added Prasad.

Mr Prasad has urged the Blues fans to turn up and paint the city Blue.

The 30-member squad which was later reduced to 22-member which includes Epeli Vunibola (Goal Keeper), Joela Biuvanua (GK), Senirusi BOkini (GK), Epeli Leiroti, Zibraaz Sahib, Afraaz Ali, Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Maciu Tuinuku, Aporosa Yada, Junior Dekedeke, Manasa Nawaikula, Kishan Sami, Ilimotama Jese, Marika Rawasoi, Muni Shivan Naidu, Sairusi Nalaubu, Saula Waqa, Atonia Tuivuna, Sterling Vasconcelos, Usman Omede, Poasa Bainivalu, Sakaraia Naisua, Isimeli Gavidi, Ratu Rusi Votuwaqewaqe, Tevita Rabakewa, Navneet Raj, Wilson Doedeke, Sekove Luma, Sekaiya Bete, and Isikeli Ratucava.
