The Suva City Council (SCC) has confirmed that a miscommunication within the SCC team led to the distribution of a notice stating increased parking fees being circulated.

The notice sparked public uproar on social media yesterday.

The notice had stated that monthly parking at the Suva foreshore carpark would increase to $230 per month.

The initial parking cost for a month is $34.50.

The notice had also stated that the decision to adjust the car park charges have been carefully considered, taking into account various factors such as maintenance costs, operational expenses and market conditions.

The SCC confirmed that the letter was not official and that it was not sanctioned with the proper approvals.

The council had also confirmed that there would be no increase.

The Fiji Sun confirmed that 50 notices were distributed to users before the council had ceased this.
