Fiji In Beche-de-mer Harvest Season

Fiji earned more than $8 million from the harvesting season last year. 

The harvesting season of beche-de-mer or sea cucumbers is from July to December, annually.

Buyers and exporters of beche-de-mer or sea cucumber have four days to express their interest to trade in the harvesting season, which begins this Saturday.

The Ministry of Fisheries said the harvesting period would run for six months, and submission made from last Saturday would be considered.

Fiji earned more than $8 million from the harvesting season last year.

Audited financial statements with chartered accountant seal for the last three years for companies are required to make a submission.

A bank statement for the last one year for business owners is required as evidence for financial stability.

There are eight other requirements the ministry will need, to process a submission.

Fisheries permanent secretary, Atelaite Rokosuka, said export proposals were also needed.

Business registrations including tax compliance certificate, company profile, shareholder structure and evidence of secured market certifications are also needed.
