Fiji Cancer To Create Awareness At Showcase

At this year’s showcase, the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) will be hosting awareness sessions to the public on how to detect and avoid cancer.

At this year’s showcase, the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) will be hosting awareness sessions to the public on how to detect and avoid cancer.

With the revival of the Fiji showcase this year, FCS in a statement said they would also have donations cans available at their booths to help fund their work.

For those who find it hard to make their way to Fiji Showcase, the society encourages individual’s to follow the simple health guidelines.

Weightless: Being overweight or obese increases your chances of developing many cancers, So, maintain a healthy body weight to reduce your risk.

Eat right: Eat a balanced diet, cut out as much added sugar, salt and fat as you can. Aim for 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables every day. Eat the rainbow on your plate and lots of different color vegetables and fruits.

Move more: Get at least 30-50 minutes of exercise 4-5 days a week, getting your heart rate up. Go dancing or a fast walk before breakfast or play a sport.

Know your normal: Know what’s normal for you and when not normal, talk to a health professional.

Don’t smoke and avoid alcohol: Tobacco and alcohol consumption are linked to many cancers.

Get screened: Screening is the best opportunity to pick up cancers and other NCD’s as early as possible when they can be treated better in Fiji.
